Jesper de Jong successively defeated Raul Brancaccio and Tomas Barrios Vera in the qualifications and was therefore allowed to compete in the main tournament against Matteo Arnaldi, the number 76 in the world. Possibly because of his Italian origin and the fact that there is a large Italian audience in Umag, this match was played on the center court in the Goran Ivanisevic Stadium. Unfortunately for De Jong, currently the number 180 in the world, it remains with one match, as he was successfully pressured from the start by Arnaldi, who won the match 6-3; 6-2. The Haarlemmer defended himself bravely but wasn’t able to control the match. He immediately fell behind in the first set after his first service game and was unable to get out of the pressure. The tournament is also over for Australian Christopher O’Connell. Hardly encouraged by his Hungarian fans, Zsombor Piros managed to win the game 6-3 and 6-4.
