Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams (pregnant) were not present at Roland Garros. Angelique Kerper lost in the first round 6-2 6-2 against Ekatarina Makarova. For Francesca Schiavone it was the same story. She had bad luck: she was facing the 2016-winner Garbine Muguruza at the other side of the net in the first round. Muguruza won 6-2, 6-4 (see the pictures below), but Muguruza her self lost in the fourth round against the hope of France Kristina Mladenovic. Svetlana Kuznetsova lost in the fourth round against Caroline Wozniacki (6-1, 4-6, 6-2). At this very moment we know that the rather unknown Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia and the Romanian Simone Halep are in the finals.
