This year the Romanian Sorana Cristea once reached the semi finals of a WTA tournament (Nürnberg against Barbora Krejcikova). Twice she came as far as the quarter finals (Madrid against Kristina Mladenovic and Istanbul against Elina Svitolina). In Miami she reached the third round (Caroline Wozniacki) and at the Australian Open she came as far as the fourth round (last 16). Not bad results at all, so the question was how far Sorana could get in Paris at Roland Garros. In Paris, as in Melbourne, her opponent in the second round was Carla Suarez Navarro. But at Roland Garros the surface turned out to be in favour of the Spanish Suarez Navarro (5-7, 4-6). So at Roland Garros, unfortunately, the second round was the end of the line for Sorana. We saw her playing her first round match against the Chinees Shuai Peng which match she won with convincing figures (6-3, 6-1).
