Everytime Carlos Berlocq hits the ball, the group of ball kids (grils) waiting for their turn to go to the court, starts to giggle. I’m sitting next to this group on court number 1 to make some pictures of Berlocq and Krajinovic. The place where we sit is very close to the tenniscourt, so I hope Carlos doesn’t hear the giggling, but I have got my doubts. In defense of the behavior of these young girls one have to say that de enormous yells Berlocq produces do sound a little bit funny, or perhaps in combination with his appearance of a warrior, even a bit scaring for these youngsters. Though maybe looking a bit frightening, Carlos is a very kind, and social minded person. As a photographer I like to make pictures of him. His game is intense. He has such a strong will to win and he always gives everything he got. There’s emotion in every photograph.
A journalist is suppost to be neutral, but to be honest I’m hoping Berlocq to win. Just as I want to say to the girls to be a little bit more silent, one of them sees on the back of my camera that I have made a picture of another ball kid on the court. I understand that’s she’s excited. She wants a picture too when she’s on court. I promise to make one. As by a miracle this silences the girls. And Carlos wins! And after this match he wins again, because Jiri Vesely is not able to finish the match and retires.
In the quarter Carlos faces Jeremy Chardy. This time on center court and no giggle girls to disturb him. Jeremy seems to have an off-day and Carlos wins again quite easy. He now has to play Andrej Martin in the semi finals.
