Unexpected results
The Croatian talent Borna Coric (230) has pulled of a great result again. Today at Umag he has beaten the Argentinian Zeballos, former 39 and current 117 of the world with 7-6 and 6-3. His game plan to focus on his first serve (as mentioned during an earlier press conference) clearly paid off. After the match he very politely answers all the questions of the Croatian press, not showing many emotions yet. However, how does he feel after such a great performance? Coric: “I feel pretty amazing actually, but I didn’t have a chance to realize that I have actually won. I will feel even better after one or two hours I think.” The popular Croat did not feel a lot of pressure before the match. “I do feel some pressure, but I see it as a new challenge that actually motivates me even more.” How can we explain that the seventeen year old player reached the third round of this ATP tournament, as this does not (yet) happen every week. “I don’t know. I was about to ask you that”, he says smiling. “Maybe it is the home crowd and for sure one important thing is the hard work I have put into my career so far. I feel like it is paying off now.”

“May be it is the home crowd and for sure one important thing is the hard work I have put into my career so far. I feel like it is paying off now.”

Other surprising results are the defeats of the sixth seated Seppi (46) who lost in a short match to Cuevas (60) from Uruguay. And of the fourth seated Joao Sousa (35) who lost in the second round to Gabashvili (68). The talented Sousa seemed to be in control of the match leading a set and an early break. However Gabashvili played tactically and mentally stable. Fighting his way back into the match and raising the pressure on Sousa. The Portuguese player seemed to get uncomfortable on the court. The fighting spirit was definitely there, but so where the restlessness and the imprecations. Gabashvili on the other hand stayed quite calm, played stable and made some good counters. Because of that he is through to the quarterfinals winning 3-6, 6-4 and 6-2. Today’s expected result came from the number one seated Fabio Fognini (20) winning of Albert Montanes (113) in straight sets 7-6 and 6-0.
