The number one seeded player Pablo Cuevas, the winner of the tournament in 2014, had a bye in the first round en was playing Gastao Elias from Portugal in the second. Elias won his first round match against the Spanish Guillermo Garcia-Lopez with convincing figures (6-1, 6-2). He kept his play at a high level and in a very tight match he succeeded to defeat the number 24 of the world. In the third set Cuevas was a break behind, but could managed to break back. The set ended up in a tie break, which was finished in an anticlimax: double fault by Cuevas at 7-8. So Cuevas is out of the singles tournament and the Portuguese sails into the quarter finals.
