Gael Monfils lost his first match against Rogerio Dutra Silva. A great loss for the tournament. With his spectaculair actions and his never lasting efforts to entertain the people he is a audience favorite. But against Rogerio he could not control the match. On the deciding moments he was not able to cash the opportunities he had. He didn’t use the breakpoints and he produced several double faults. Although he didn’t mention it, perhaps the fact that at the beginning of the match he bounced his had against the boarding and seemed to have a lot of pain was one of the causes of his lesser game. Both the referee and his opponent were startled and came to see whether he was allright or not. You can see it happening in photogallery below. To the relief of the audience after a while he was able to continue the match what unfortunately for him turned out to be his last of the tournament. The Brasilian Rogerio Dutra Silva reached by his win on Monfils (7-6(5); 4-6; 6-3) the quarter finals. In quarters in a tight match he was defeated by the Italian Alessandra Giannessi (6-7(3); 6-2; 7-5) who now is in the semi finals. Giannessi will play against his compatriot Paolo Lorenzi. Although the first set was a convincing win for the Czeck Jiri Vesely (6-1), Paola managed to win by 1-6; 7-5; 6-3.
