The quarter finals, that’s where the journey ended for the Belgium Kirsten Flipkens. In a tough match the third set was won by the Italian Camila Georgi (6-2; 5-7; 6-4). It brought Georgi not only into the semi finals but also, for the third time in a row, into the final in Katowice. That’s because in the semi final she was to strong for the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko. Ostapenko defeated in the quarter finals Timea Babos from Hungary by 7-6(3), 2-6 and 6-3, but the Italian girl turn out to be another piece of cake. In 2014 and 2015 Camila Giorgi was already in the finals in Katowice. In 2014 it was the French AlizĂ© Cornet who was the winner and last year Anna Karolina Schmiedlova was to strong. Last year her father and coach Sergio Giorgi told us, that his daughter always plays well in this tournament. The surface obviously suites Camila in a perfect way. Her well placed flat, fast groundstrokes are very effective on this court. And it’s not unlikely that her elegant looks makes her a favorite of the Polish audience. However, it’ s clear that the public also likes the passionated way of coaching and supporting of her father Sergio. Perhaps this year it will be Camila’s turn to be the winner in the final. Time will tell.
