In February this year we have met Anna Karolina Schmiedlova during the Fed-Cup match between the Netherlands and Slovakia. Her play at that moment was impressive and though not on paper the number one of the Slovakia team, on the court she definitely was. In the Netherlands she played on her favorite surface: clay. Only the first time (2013) the tournament was organized in Katowice, there was a clay court. Since Agnieszka Radwanska joins the game the surface has turned in to hard court. Anna Karolina proved that she can handle that surface as well. Today, by defeating the former champion Alizé Cornet, she reached the semi final. During the match Alizé was injured and she could not run as she just to do. ‘Then my game is down, and with Anna Karolina playing so well I couldn’t win,’ she explained fighting against her tears. ‘I don’t know yet what the problem is. I don’t think it is very seriously, but my leg was bothering me a lot during the match.’ She told the press that she will do her very best to recover and play with Magda Linette the doubles semi final.
